Through Orwell's Eyes: Trump's first 100 days

Trump's 100 day mark as US president recently passed, and many are torn as to the extent in which his promises have been delivered. Here I pulled a video from MSNBC, as well as Fox news, that hold very different views on the matter. However, we see what George Orwell speaks of in his article, Politics and the English language, rearing its head into both.

MSNBC coverage

To begin with, this video does display the more comprehensive ideas. That being said, if I'm speaking objectively it is important to note that there is language used throughout that delivers the sense of vagueness that Orwell so despises. Lawrence O'Donell poses the question, "Has there been a more poignant line uttered by a president in his first hundred days?" The used of "poignant" and uttered" deliver a superfluous feel; no doubt intended to contrast the lack of eloquence in Trump's statement.

Fox News coverage

This piece from Fox News, featuring Kellyanne Conway, displays the opinion that Trump has been wildly successful. "Promises made, promises kept," she quotes the signs of satisfied supporters. However, she doesn't really go on to deliver any of these promises. She just gives us a slew of Orwell's "Meaningless Words,", and throwing around "democrats" as a blanket terms for anyone dissatisfied with Trump. She mentions the term, "repeal and replace effort" in regards to Trump's health care plan, and even goes on to mention they are getting very close." The problem with this? She never gives even a whiff of an actual plan. Hinting towards it, yes, but no sign of actual change. This is a prime example of the vagueness that Orwell credits for being the demise of the English language.
